Working in Teams
Some of the range of assessment strategies I have used in my teaching include:

Year 9 Maths - Statistics Investigation Task
Students develop an investigation question to explore a topic or issue of interest to themselves, then use the Statistics tools and methods developed in class to analyse data obtained from CensusAtSchool
.

  • This task allows students to choose a topic of relevance or interest, and obtain unique data.
  • The task is open, in that students may choose how to best represent, analyse and interpret their data.
  • Students are provided with the assessment criteria and marking rubric at the beginning of the task.

Year 10 Indonesian - Cooking Show

Students developed and performed short presentations in Indonesian about a range of recipes. The presentations were both teacher and peer assessed, using the same criteria and marking scale.
Student performance
  • Discussion of  the assessment criteria during the development of the presentations ensured students were aware of my expectations and how they would be assessed.
  • Post-performance viewing of the filmed presentations, along with discussion of the criteria and the presentations enabled students to learn from their own and others work.

Indonesian - Vocab Quizzes
Students work individually or in pairs, responding to either teacher questions or other prompts (eg. images) about Indonesian vocabulary items. Quizzes are short (usually 10 items) and are used after introducing new vocabulary, mid-way through a topic, and/or at the end of a topic.

  • Students are able to track their learning of vocabulary items and identify areas in need of further development.
  • Students' responses can highlight areas of strength and difficulty which can then be acknowledged and built on in other teaching activities.
